Total employment in Hong Kong increased in September 2007 compared with a year earlier.

According to the statistics released by the Census and Statistics Department, total employment in the private sector surveyed increased by 2.2% in September 2007 compared with a year earlier.

Employment increased in most of the surveyed sectors, especially in finance and insurance (8.0%), real estate (5.2%), restaurants (5.1%), business services (4.8%) and medical, health and related services (4.8%). Decreases were recorded in construction sites (-7.7%), manufacturing (-2.6%) and sanitary and similar services (-2.1%).

The statistics have also shown that vacancies have increased in almost all industry sectors in September 2007 compared with a year earlier.
