Employees Expect Higher Pay Rise in 2008 (15 Jan 08) 

Employees in Hong Kong expect a higher pay rise this year compared with in 2007.

According to a survey conducted by the Hong Kong Clerical and Professional Employees General Union, more than 40% of employees in Hong Kong expect a pay rise of 10% - 12% this year.

Among the 735 employees interviewed, one-fifth got a pay rise of more than 10% in 2007, 40% got a pay rise of less than 10%, 34% got a pay freeze. More than 30% of the employees were not satisfied with their current salaries and more than 25% have considered to change jobs. Most of them would like to change to the finance sector.

The survey was conducted from September to November last year, interviewing employees in banking, securities, insurance, accounting, finance, education, sports & recreation, clerical, and training, etc.

The Union advised employers to share the fruits of economic success with staff in order to retain talents.
