After attending the job interview, don't just sit there waiting for phone calls from the employer. Follow up with a thank-you letter can make you stand out from the other candidates competing for the position. The following are tips in writing this letter.
- Write the letter as soon as you have finished the interview. To let the employer remember you and to show your sincerity, try to write the letter immediately after the interview. Even if it is not possible, do not delay more than two days.
- The letter should be addressed to the interviewer. Write the name and title correctly. If you can get the name card of the interviewer, it would help you a lot.
- In the letter, mention the date of the job interview and the position you apply for so that the interviewer can remember who you are.
- At the beginning of the letter, give thanks to the interviewer for granting you a job interview. Then, re-emphasize some of your strengths and skills, and express your interest in the job and the company. If you have forgotten to mention some important information in the interview, you can add here. Close the letter by stating again your expectation to get the job.
- Remember to proofread the letter. Even the letter is short, it should not contain spelling or grammatical mistakes.
- You can send the letter by post or by email (make sure you have the correct e-mail address of the interviewer).
- Use white A4 paper to print your letter if you are going to send it by post. Do not use fancy coloured paper.
- Remember to sign the letter if it is to be sent by post.
