Xavier也介紹兩大熱門科目,「Leading and Managing in a Global Environment是其中一個受歡迎的核心科目,熱門的選修科則是

a triple-accredited Manchester global MBA

With a student intake of working professionals from Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, South Korea, and Taiwan, the course provides distinct advantages for those eyeing to venture abroad or advance their careers locally.

For professionals who hope to take their careers up a notch, many would look to further their education with an MBA. However, it's no easy task to select the right business school from the multitude of choices.

With a history spanning nearly 200 years, The University of Manchester is a globally renowned institution known for its academic reputation, as is its Global MBA programme.

"The programme's level of practicality, diversity, and business relevance respond to the current needs of the market. The school's extensive academic network allows students to study their elective courses in Manchester or other centres worldwide to broaden their international horizons and enhance their competitiveness. It is especially well-suited for those looking to accelerate growth, change direction, or create a start-up," says Xavier Duran, [MBA Programmes Director, Alliance MBS, University of Manchester].

A top-tier business school with triple global accreditations

The Alliance Manchester Business School is synonymous with the highest standards of excellence. It is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in the US, the Association of MBAs (AMBA) in the UK, and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) in Europe, placing it in the top 1% of business schools around the globe. Additionally, the university boasts 25 Nobel Prize laureates among its alumni and staff, cementing its leading position in the UK.

The two-year part-time MBA programme adopts a blended learning approach, with three to four subjects taught face-to-face while the rest are delivered online. It is highly flexible and portable, meeting the needs of busy working professionals and fitting around their schedules and pace of learning.

"Another absolute highlight is that The University of Manchester East Asia Centre has a physical campus in Causeway Bay. In the first year of the programme, professors from Manchester would come to Hong Kong in person to lead a three- to four-day intensive workshop on theory and core disciplines such as finance, economics, accounting, marketing, and strategic management," he added. "The second year primarily focuses on practicality, where students have the option of taking their electives either in Hong Kong or at the Dubai, Manchester, Shanghai, and Singapore centres."

The school offers a wide range of electives, covering big data analysis, digital marketing strategy, and strategic commercial management. What's more, candidates can benefit from international exposure and social networking with overseas students and alumni to broaden their global vision and connections.

▲Xavier Duran, [MBA Programmes Director, Alliance MBS, University of Manchester programme], says that the programme's highly flexible and portable blended learning approach is made to fit working professionals.

Thanks to the diverse and interactive face-to-face workshops, internships, and overseas immersion, students have the opportunity to discover their personal interests and career paths. The programme also moves away from traditional exams and uses practical business case assignments as the main form of assessment. It allows students to apply the skills and knowledge they learned to real-life business challenges.

He adds that the MBA programme follows the "Manchester Method" teaching approach, which has been in practice for more than 50 years. "Through this experiential approach, we don't simply teach theory, but we guide students to draw conclusions from theory. Students acquire practical knowledge and hands-on experiences while also developing their analytical and decision-making skills," says Xavier.

Top-notch course offerings that move with the times

Recognising the growing importance of AI (artificial intelligence) and ESG (environment, social, and governance) across different industries, the programme offers as many as 24 electives, including Digital Marketing Strategy; Digital Economy; Fintech, Digital Banking and Blockchain; and Sustainable and Socially Responsible Business. They help candidates to be more market-facing and guide them to lead corporate social responsibility initiatives and create sustainable value for brands, society, and the planet.

Xavier explains that 'Leading and Managing in a Global Environment' is the core subject of choice among the many courses offered, while 'Work Psychology for Managerial Success' is the most popular elective. "The latter is specially designed to help students acquire soft skills on workplace and behavioural psychology, preparing them to take on more senior leadership roles in their careers," he says.

According to him, interested professionals who have studied accounting, finance, or related disciplines in their previous education or already hold a professional qualification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CA), or Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) may be exempted from certain courses and credits. They can consider choosing this path to shorten the duration of study from 24 months to 18 months.

The route to career growth and a global vision

The Manchester Business School maintains strong connections with international campuses and universities, including The University of East Asia, Japan. Half of the students are from Hong Kong, while the others come from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Macau, and an increasing number from Guangdong and Shenzhen.

Xavier emphasised, "These connections would prove immensely rewarding for students who are keen to tap into the Asia Pacific market beyond Hong Kong. The school's regular activities and the global footprint of its extensive fellow alumni community can help students build their valuable business networks."

In addition, its close relationships with some of the world's best headhunting firms are also here to give students the important tailored career support that they need.

"Employment seminars, online webinars, one-on-one CV and application consultation as well as job search workshops, help candidates become even more employable. Whether they plan to pursue their careers overseas, make job transitions, or start their own company, they will graduate with greater finesse," says Xavier.

When it comes to choosing the right MBA programme, Xavier believes that it is important to set study targets that align with their goals after graduation.

He said, "For example, do they want to continue to develop their careers in Hong Kong, or embark on an adventure elsewhere? Or would they hope to become accountants, lawyers, establish brands, or even start a micro and small firm?" He believes that not only does Manchester Business School's reputation, curriculum, and international network give students an eye-opening experience, but it also enhances their skills and networks and even teaches them how to operate start-ups. All these ultimately contribute to the long-term success of their careers. After all, the Global MBA programme itself comes with multidisciplinary knowledge that already sets students apart from the competition.

Celebrating the bicentennial milestone

Next year will mark the 200th milestone anniversary of The University of Manchester. Xavier revealed that a programme of activities awaits in the historical and cultural city of Manchester.

"These events will offer a glimpse into the university's luminaries and the changes that it has witnessed over the past two centuries. And it's an open invitation to our fellow alumni from far and wide," said Xavier.

Recalling his trip to Hong Kong, Xavier found the school's grand gala dinner, which he attended with generations of graduates, an unforgettable memory. It was that overflowing sense of bond and feeling of unity that made this journey one that he will always cherish and remember.
