An Account Officer serves as a liaison between financial institutions and customers, typically managing a portfolio of corporate or individual clients. Their responsibilities range from attracting and servicing clients to developing risk management strategies. The nature of their work often requires detailed attention to compliance laws, market trends and an ability to understand the financial goals of their clients. The banking, investment and finance industries are common sectors for Account Officers.
Tasks and duties
- Managing customer accounts and maintaining the accuracy of account information.
- Ensuring timely collection of payments and resolving any issues regarding billing or payment.
- Tracking and monitoring account transactions.
- Providing support to sales teams, facilitating their tasks and assisting in customer retention.
- Implementing effective recovery plans for payments in case of any delays or defaults.
- Assessing the creditworthiness of the customers.
How to become an Account Officer
As liaisons between financial institutions and customers, Account Officers should have a degree in accounting or higher.
- 1.Degree in Accounting/Finance or other related disciplines.
- 2.Qualification from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants or the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants a plus.
- 3.Accounting experience in related fields is preferred.
- 4.Should be detail-oriented, have strong computer knowledge (e.g., Microsoft Excel) and be able to work independently.
