What's it like to be a Data Analyst?
Data Analysts help organisations make data-driven decisions. A Data Analyst collects, processes and interprets large volumes of data to identify patterns, trends and insights that can provide a competitive edge or improve efficiency. To achieve this, they often employ statistical tools and machine learning techniques. Data Analysts can work across a range of industries, including finance, healthcare, telecommunications and retail. Excellent problem-solving skills and an understanding of statistics and databases are among the key competencies needed for this role.
Tasks and duties
- Collecting and interpreting data relevant to the business.
- Using statistical tools to identify and interpret patterns in complex data sets.
- Working closely with management to identify their information and analysis needs.
- Maintaining databases and ensuring their accuracy.
- Reporting findings and data insights to relevant stakeholders within the business.
- Developing and implementing data collection systems and other strategies to optimise statistical efficiency and quality.
- Creating customised data reports, charts or visualisations to effectively present findings.
How to become a Data Analyst
A data analyst interprets large volumes of data to help the company make sound business decisions. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills and an understanding of statistics would be advantageous in this role.
- 1.Bachelor’s degree/Master's degree/PhD in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline.
- 2.Has proven experience in data analysis, including using advanced platforms that help manage data (e.g., SQL. Python, R, etc.).
- 3.Knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques.
- 4.Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Google Data Studio, Tableau.
- 5.Strong project management, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
