What's it like to be a Product Manager?
Product Managers hold a key role within various industries, responsible for driving the development, market launch and continuous support and improvement of a company's products. They work closely with diverse teams, including engineering, design, marketing and sales, to map out the strategic direction of the product portfolio. A Product Manager often gathers market intelligence to identify customer needs and business opportunities, translates these into product requirements and prioritises them based on business value. As the pivotal link between the technical and business sides of a company, effective communication, leadership and decision-making skills are critical in this role.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing all stages of product development, from initial conception to final rollout.
- Gathering and analysing feedback from customers and stakeholders to shape features.
- Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including marketing, sales and engineering.
- Creating, prioritising and adjusting product roadmaps in accordance with business goals and market trends.
- Evaluating competing products and companies.
- Presenting product ideas and progress to stakeholders and corporate leadership.
- Assessing metrics, market trends and profitability to guide product strategy.
