雖然小二自問英文唔算非常流利,但因為長期要喺識場上運用餐飲業嘅英語,所以就算客人要求用英文溝通,都有十足嘅信心。但好多時,餐廳都會出現一啲自覺受過高等教育嘅客人寶寶,即使無十足嘅把握都堅持使用英文溝通同落單,向朋友/侍應表現出一個「出慣嚟食飯」嘅形象,但無奈有時就係一講錯成千古恨。



1. First initial

客人寶寶:I would like to make a booking. 
小二:May I have your last name please? 
客人寶寶:Chan.
小二: May I have your first initial please?
客人寶寶:I just told you! CHAN!

其實First initial係指你英文名開頭個字母,唔係你個姓氏。好多餐廳預約時除咗問你Last name之外,仲會問埋你First initial,特別係如果你個姓係陳、黃、李呢啲大姓,一個招牌跌落嚟都砸死幾個嘅話。所以如果侍應問到,你答返佢「A」或者「A Chan」咁就得。不過客人寶寶總係覺得侍應們低智,誤會咗我哋點解重覆又問多次佢個姓。



2. Red color house red

客人寶寶:Hey, I want a house red first. Do you understand?
小二:Sir, would you prefer a drier or sweeter flavor?
客人寶寶:吓!我要紅酒喎!紅色㗎喎!!

有時House wine唔只得一種,如果侍應有心機會問一問你想要啲咩口味。但客人寶寶又會覺得侍應小學雞,仲想笑人House red都聽唔明,點知就畀識嘅人笑返轉頭啦。



3. 60% steak

小二:How would you like your steak cooked?
客人寶寶:I want my steak 60%.

中文就會用5成、7成去講牛扒成數。但英文查實就唔會真係用百分比去講成數,而係用Rare、Medium rare、Medium、Medium well、Well done等等。



4. Still or sparkling water

小二:Hi madam, would you like to have still or sparkling water? 

客人寶寶:Sorry, I need to drive tonight. No alcohol. Just water please.

呢個係慣常西餐廳問水嘅開場白,但有客人寶寶可能聽到Water前面多咗隻字,就誤以為我Sell緊佢飲唔飲酒,結果佢拒絕完我之後,又叫我畀杯水佢。咁究竟客人寶寶你係要有汽水定係無汽水呢?提提各位客人寶寶,如果唔想畀錢叫支裝水又想飲水,都可以回答:「Just regular water / tap water, thanks!」 



5.Risotto vs Paella

客人寶寶:Is your chef from Italy? This risotto like nothing I ate in Italy and I went there couple time.

小二: Madam, this is not risotto, it’s paella. We are a Spanish restaurant.
 

唔同國家有唔同嘅特色菜,但客人寶寶成日誤會所有西式飯類都係叫Risotto;即使你落單時已經Confirm過佢係叫Paella,佢都扮明話「Yes sure」。查實明明Risotto係意大利燴飯,Paella係西班牙炒飯,一燴一炒兩樣嘢嚟㗎喎。



6. Piccolo

客人寶寶:I want to have a piccolo latte. 

小二: Sure.

客人寶寶:吓!咁細杯嘅!!

講到咖啡,好多客人寶寶都好鍾意用啲自己唔明嘅名,叫啲自己唔知係乜嚟嘅嘢。其實Piccolo喺意大利文解作「小」,一般餐廳都會用Espresso杯出,所以係細細杯的。仲有Espresso macchiato,都係一啲常被誤會係大杯嘢飲嘅名。不過就算係普遍嘅Cappuccino,都有客人寶寶問點解杯咖啡咁多泡。



其實好多西餐廳有Standard,無論打招呼或者問水時都會自動波用英文,以營造高檔西方氣氛。但如果你真係無信心全程用英文對答,可以直接用中文回答侍應問題,侍應都會轉返Channel用中文,除非嗰位侍應係外籍人士啦。所以,寧願避免老尷用錯英文,不如都係用返我哋自豪又流利嘅廣東話啦!
