推薦信可能是教授親筆撰寫,也可能是先讓同學草擬,再由教授修改。以下是推薦信範例以供參考:

邀請教授撰寫推薦信的注意事項──Dos and Don’ts

Dos

1. 客觀構思合適人選

可能你會選擇最喜愛或最熟悉的教授作為推薦人,但他/她所任教的學科最好是與申請職位相關。例如你主修工商管理,但你申請了要求語文能力高的公關工作,那麼你最好能找到曾任教語言的導師作為推薦人,會更具成效。


2. 提供足夠參考資料

縱然推薦人對你的學業背景有所了解,但在畢業旺季,推薦人可能同時收到多個畢業生的邀請,要構思每個學生的特質也費煞思量。因此學生可先以列點形式提供個人背景資料,包括與申請職位相關的個人專長、學業成績、職業抱負及申請職位原因,如有實習經驗更可附上個人CV,作為參考資料,讓推薦人撰寫時更容易入手,內容更貼近未來僱主需要。


3. 誠意十足,保持禮貌

同學可以親身或電郵邀請教授,前提是一定要有十足誠意。如教授要求你先自行草擬,別千篇一律採用同一版本的內容,應按照自己的特點和個別教授對你的認知,撰寫獨特的邀請函。即使最終有些教授因個別原因未能答應,也應保持禮貌感謝他們回應你的邀請。


4. 表示謝意

推薦人為你撰寫推薦信後,別以為就此告一段落。應該以電郵或郵寄形式撰寫感謝信,以答謝他們的義務幫忙。如此一來,也能與推薦人保持友好關係,如日後未來僱主需要聯絡推薦人,他們或會樂意繼續幫忙。


Don’ts

1. 時間不足,倉卒行事

教職員平日的教學及行政工作繁忙,如你只給予兩周或以下時間,那麼他們可能會覺得太倉卒而感覺不太良好。由推薦人答應你寫信到完成期間,應該至少給予三周或以上時間,一來可以讓他們有充分時間準備,二來也能令對方感受你特意邀請他們的誠意。


2. 在不對時機聯繫

盡量避免在開學及考試旺季向推薦人發出邀請,在教學活動最忙碌的日子,教職員難以抽空應付額外事務,因此你被受理的機會可能會比平日較低。


3. 過多電郵或電話聯繫

向合適人選發出邀請函後,如他們答應幫忙,可以再向他們提供你的背景資料,但謹記限以一封電郵(加上附件)涵蓋推薦人的所需資料,別將資料分多封電郵發給推薦人,或不時打電話追問進度,此舉只會令對方感到混亂和煩擾。


4. 邀請完全不熟悉的人推薦

或許學院地位愈高的人愈具權威,如能獲得他們為你推薦,理應事半功倍;但若然他們與你完全不相熟,甚至雙方未曾會面交談,彼此對對方毫無印象,那麼即便他們地位再高,也並非最合適的人選,一來他們未必會答應你的請求,二來他們也未必能在信中撰寫一些較具體或貼近你求職所需的內容。
