City tour創作意念及簡介
With regards to the HKTB Work Plan for 2017-2018, one significant weakness of the proposal is the lack of resources on the young segment and international free independent travellers. This segment of tourists has three main concerns: low cost, fun and desire to experience local Hong Kong. A well-thought city-tour that is based on the current weaknesses while adhering to the values of sustainability and competitiveness could be another solution in promoting Hong Kong. Apart from the mainstream attractions, we selected the SOHO area, Wan Chai and Kwun Tong to reflect the uncommonly-known side of Hong Kong. Referring to the area south of Hollywood Road, SoHo is the multicultural yet artistic side of Central. PMQ and the exotic restaurants of SoHo’s historic and narrow streets are chic to the extreme. Made internationally famous by the 1960 film The World of Suzie Wong, historic Wan Chai is not just Hong Kong’s party district; by day it’s a pleasant neighbourhood for wandering and shopping in a retro way with its ageless monuments such as Wo Cheong Pawn shop and the revamped Lee Tung Street. Kwun Tong is what best represents Hong Kong as a whole – it is a neighbourhood blended with history, art and commerce of the local community. Developed in Hong Kong as the first new town in the 1950s, Kwun Tong has gone through a tremendous process of change; from being the centre for different industrialised activities in the 1900s to the gentrified creative culture hub at modern times. In addition, in view of the proposed future focus of promoting cruise tourism, we believe that Kwun Tong is an optimal and convincing new tourism destination for Hong Kong. Therefore, we would like to create a city tour featuring the above places to unveil the hidden gems in Hong Kong for locals and international tourists to better understand the city.
