The Hong Kong Suzuki Music Institute is seeking a bright, animated, and independent administrative assistant for a growing children's music school. We offer a unique family music program in which both children and parents learn together. Our approach is based on the international Suzuki method with over 400,000 students worldwide. The language of instruction is English.

The administrative person will be the first contact for inquiries and questions from parents. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be comfortable speaking with people, answering questions, and explaining our program and procedures. On the job training for understanding our business will be provided. S/he will assist the Executive Director in running the normal everyday activities of the school, aid in the planning of special events, assisting in making concert programs and event announcements, maintain our social media presence, invoicing and assisting in basic record keeping, maintaining class lists and attendance, some basic arts and crafts, and other duties as needed. If musical, there may be opportunities to assist with classes as a fun option.

Hours: Ideally, we are seeking a full-time person but will consider part-time if the candidate is the right fit.

      Full-Time: 40-48hrs/5-5.5days. Tuesdays to Fridays 10-7. Saturdays are required 9am-3:30pm (to 5pm on concert days). In-person Monday afternoons may be added in August 2019 as required, we are currently closed on Mondays but some emails and social media posting are needed ca. 2hrs work.This light admin can be done from home if desired. Some flexibility in hours is available Wednesdays to Fridays. Salary: $12K+ based on experience. Room for salary increases as school grows.

       Part-time: ca. 25-30hrs/4-5days. Tuesdays 10-6/7 and Saturdays 9am-3:30pm (to 5pm on concert days) are required. Monday, Wednesdays to Friday flexible starting at 1pm. Hourly wage: $50-$75/hr based on experience.

Must like children.

Excellent command of English and Cantonese is required.

Excellent English writing needed.

Previous Arts Admin experience is an asset.

Must be a self-directed, independent worker and be comfortable working alone or semi-alone.

Applicants of all ages are welcome.

Social media and computer skills are required.

Medical benefits.

A musical background is an asset, but not required. Must enjoy western classical violin and piano music.

Overall pleasant and quiet work place with brief busy intervals.

The Hong Kong Suzuki Music Institute opened its doors in September 2015 in Shek Tong Tsui, near HKU Station.

We offer a unique Family Music Program based on the international Suzuki philosophy which brings parents and children together in a community learning environment. Our biggest program teaches the violin, but we also have programs for piano and younger students.

Starting in January 2019 we have ca. 100 students and we are growing rapidly.

We have several special events each year including formal and informal concerts at concert halls, public spaces, parks, etc.

We offer a relaxed, but interesting, work environment in which the staff are expected to be independent and self-motivated.

Our faculty are international teacher-musicians with graduate degrees and experience in their field.
