Job Description

A leading European architectural studio who have an office in HK and multiple projects in China is looking for an Architectural Translator to join their team to translate from Chinese to English and English to Chinese (traditional and simplified Chinese).

Due to growth across the region, the translator will work closely with the project teams to help translate in meetings, presentations, documents (both legal and technical) as well as through various communication channels (calls, emails, WeChat). The ideal candidate will have worked in an architectural or design studio in the past and will be familiar with the technical language associate with architectural projects, allowing or successful translation relating to this type of work. This is a client facing role and once travel is possible you will be travelling to projects and meetings across the region with key members of the design team, to help facilitate multilingual meetings

Key responsibilities:

  • Communicating with clients, consultants and third parties, and translating back to the team in HK, and UK
  • Attending meetings (online and in person) and presentations where immediate translation may be required.
  • Translating documents into Chinese or vice versa into English and writing documents dictated in English – these could be technical drawing documents or legal contracts.
  • General translation of communication, by email, phone, WeChat
  • Occasional input into translation of marketing materials and creating content for the Chinese market.

To be a successful candidate you should possess the following key skills: 

  • Excellent written and spoken English and Mandarin, (traditional and simplified Chinese is vital), Cantonese is beneficial.
  • Experience in architectural or construction industry.
  • Attention to detail, and used to dealing with contracts and legal documentation.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to China (when able) – essential
  • Strong interpersonal skills for client management and team communication
  • Strongly organised and methodical, with an emphasis on time management
