Job Description


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Manager will:

  • Develop and implement low-cost campaigns to raise awareness of AFS and increase the number of student applications, school partners, corporate/NGO partners, and donors
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute presentations and events that highlight AFS programs to external parties, including but not limited to students, parents, teachers, and corporate partners; these presentations and events can be during evenings and weekends
  • Build network and establish rapport with media, and facilitate press coverage of AFS Hong Kong
  • Strategically manage and grow social media channels
  • Strategically manage search engine marketing with Google Grants
  • Assist the ED and board members in engaging the various stakeholders, including but not limited to corporate donors, educational institutions, government officials, other community groups and NGOs, and AFS alumni
  • Spearhead initiatives to improve internal communications and community outreach
  • Collaborate and support the Senior Director of Programs on program-related matters
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Development Coordinator and volunteers to execute AFS alumni campaigns and events
  • Work with external contractors to manage projects that impact the organization’s brand and reputation
  • Other day-to-day tasks: produce publications and marketing collaterals; maintain AFS Hong Kong database; manage AFS Hong Kong web site and other online platforms; engage with AFS alumni
  • Work with the Board of Directors’ Communication Committee to manage and execute AFS Hong Kong branding and profile-raising strategy to good effect
  • Attend education, social sector, and AFS community meetings and events which can be during evenings and weekends


  • Degree holder in Communications, Marketing, or relevant discipline is an advantage
  • A minimum of five years working experience in marketing / communications or alumni / external relations field
  • Knowledge of online (e.g. SEM, social media, etc.) and offline marketing channels
  • Understanding of Hong Kong education ecosystem is an advantage
  • Interest and passion for education and youth development
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; proficient in both English & Chinese
  • Strategic thinker with an ability to put high-level ideas into practice
  • Dynamic, creative, digital native and a self-starter
  • Independent and details-oriented
  • Good team player with positive work attitude and well-organized

Every year AFS Hong Kong hosts and sends some 200 participants on its flagship year-long homestay exchange for secondary students.
