Job Description

Job Purpose

Develop and manage the entire Footwear and Accessories merchandise portfolio for Men’s at Lane Crawford, ensuring all buyers maximize and react to merchandise opportunity, which is in line with the company image and meets the agreed sales and profitability targets. Lead and develop the team in order to deliver the business unit objectives.

Key Accountabilities:

In addition to following Pedder Group’s policies and procedures, key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management

  • Develop and communicate the annual business plan, set seasonal merchandise objectives and business strategy and achieve sales and profit targets based on these agreed plans
  • Review the business regularly looking at strategic opportunities to grow the business to implement merchandise and sales planning controls to achieve sales plan and gross margin plan
  • Manage the departmental P&L through good financial planning and control of expenses 
  • Negotiate with key brands and suppliers in a thorough and fair manner to secure exclusive ranges / brands and optimize the profit margin
  • Monitor the sell-through of merchandise to maximize the profit opportunities for each season
  • Be proactive in understanding the competition, and take action to minimize any loss of Pedder Group market share
  • Determine pricing strategies with the buyers for products/suppliers based on market reviews, competitor positions, supplier financials, etc.
  • Understand and manage supplier and logistics costs
  • Identify value-added opportunities for Pedder Group as appropriate

Merchandise Management

  • Set merchandising vision and strategy for Lane Crawford Men’s Shoes & Accessories to meet financial targets, including revenue, margin and inventory metrics
  • Be innovative to forecast upcoming trends by attending worldwide exhibitions on regular basis
  • Collaborate with Marketing Department to derive seasonal marketing plan and lead the team to reach seasonal marketing initiatives
  • Well-versed with both local and overseas market situations and trends
  • Develop innovative new business and maintain a leading position in the market through brand exclusivity, debut products and brand launches
  • Monitor sell-through and deliveries of all suppliers, give timely feedback and handle performance issues.

Relationship Management

  • Manage the local and international vendor partnership and their expectation to ensure that Pedder Group has the best in-house support for its brands with opportunities for exclusivity, and a strong partnership is formed and maintained
  • Work with vendors and show support and appreciation to encourage vendor commitment to Pedder Group through activities such as special events, seminars and other ad-hoc partnerships
  • Demonstrate a desire to understand and communicate the latest trends and fashion to customers and staff
  • Manage the business relationship with the suppliers involved in the business category to build the brand relationship and manage the brand expectations
  • Oversee the product knowledge training and support for sales staff, working with vendors to ensure appropriate content and delivery method
  • Be the Pedder Group ambassador for fashion brands and the first point of contact for media/vendor activities

Team Leadership

  • Demonstrate and reinforce the Pedder Group Vision and Values at all times and provide the necessary leadership to gain commitment from buying team
  • Identify and execute ways to increase employee’s loyalty, satisfaction and pride with the Pedder Group experience
  • Reinforce the company message to the team and reinforce the need to drive profitability at Pedder Group through the merchandise mix and full price sell through
  • Provide on job coaching to ensure that the Buying team are able to meet and exceed the requirements of their role
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities for additional training for the team
  • Monitor and review performance of the team with Senior Vice President, identify individuals who are ready for promotion or require performance improvement plans
  • Take appropriate corrective action with employees who fall below standard (in consultation with HR Department)
  • Complete and present performance appraisals based on defined goals and objectives for their employees in a timely manner
  • Recognize, reward and celebrate success with the team, stores and vendors


  • Degree holder with minimum 7 years of merchandising experience in luxury retail, multi-brand experience will be a plus
  • Proven track record in vendor relationship building and management
  • Strong business acumen and excellent planning, negotiation and team building skills, with sensitivity to customer needs and market trends
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Good command of spoken Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus
