Assistant Digital Collection Manager (at the rank of Facilities Officer) in the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) (Ref.: 503822) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary)
Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in Art History, Data Management, Library Science or a related discipline, and at least 2 years’ work experience in object collection management in a museum or similar professional setting. They should have a good understanding of the methods and procedures required to manage art collections, including the practices, standards, philosophy, and theory of collection stewardship on digital platform. An interest in Digital Humanities is an advantage. Applicants with less experience may be considered for appointment as Digital Collection Assistant.
The appointee will provide assistance to the museum Curators in managing, maintaining, and facilitating the use of the University’s art collections. Reporting to the Director, and working closely with the Assistant Art Collection Manager, he/she is expected to work with museum communities, the University community, and professional organizations to provide the required services, including but not limited to: (1) improving and maintaining collection databases; (2) maintaining and developing the department website; (3) supporting other IT-related tasks; (4) providing assistance to Curators in research; (5) training and working with undergraduate and graduate students, interns, and volunteers; and (6) participating in museum programmes and outreach activities, workshops, seminars, and other forms of professional development.
