Project : Investigating the Use of Nanobubble Technology in Aquaculture
The overall objective of this project is to assess whether nanobubble technology can reduce the burden of pathogens on aquaculture farms during a disease outbreak and reduce the use and level of antimicrobials in the aquatic environment. This is a 3-year project which is entering the second year.
Duties : Conduct laboratory (tank-based) and field (ponds and sea cages) experiments with live fish (e.g. tilapia, grouper); supervise research assistants and PhD students; oversee the technical and financial aspects of the project, including writing of project reports to the funding agency and manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals; and perform other duties as assigned by the project Principal Investigator.
Requirements : A PhD degree in microbiology with experience in fish pathogens and demonstrated experience in operation and management of recirculating aquaculture systems. Proficiency in Putonghua is mandatory, while fluency in Cantonese is an advantage. Good command of written and spoken English with at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal; demonstrated familiarity with research and data analysis methods; good interpersonal skills with strong sense of responsibility; and ability to work independently and proactively are required. Preference will be given to candidates with background in water quality data analysis, molecular biological techniques and international experience.
