Job Description

Your Next Challenge

  • To watch, inspect, test and examine materials used, the Contractor’s workmanship, and dismantling/construction method and procedure employed for all structural/geotechnical works, including works manufactured/fabricated off-site or at factories or other laboratories
  • To ensure the materials used and workmanship employed in the structural/geotechnical works are complying with the specification, drawings and construction procedures
  • To supervise ground investigation works
  • To check, supervise and inspect site formation work and slope upgrading works
  • To identify defective or substandard structural/geotechnical works, and to co-ordinate and witness the performance of appropriate tests and remedial works on the defective or substandard structural/geotechnical works. To keep records of all identified defective or substandard works and their corresponding remedial works, and report to Structural Designer and Supervising Officer (SO) accordingly
  • To communicate with the site supervisory staffs of the Supervising Officer (SO) on structural/geotechnical works and to submit monthly report to the SO on progress and quality of structural/geotechnical works
  • To resolve on site difficulties arising from unforeseen circumstances
  • To ensure the structural/geotechnical works to progress with minimum disruption, and in cases of action involving variations to design, consult the Designer and report to the SO or his Representatives
  • To report to the SO or his Representatives any matters of unusual aspect
  • To maintain site records on structural/geotechnical work and to co-ordinate the checking of levels and setting-out of structural/geotechnical works
  • To closely monitor the records of all types of monitoring stations, such as settlement, tilting, horizontal movement and vibration. Report to Structural Designer and Supervising Officer (SO) immediately if any alarm level being exceeded
  • To monitor the progress and to produce timely information in advance of construction to avoid delay
  • To co-ordinate builder's works requirements in connection with building services and deal with the consequential changes to structural design and to produce sketch plans and working drawings
  • To check, supervise and inspect all Temporary Works and false works as required in the Contract
  • To attend regular and ad hoc meetings
  • To assist the SO or his Representatives in the investigation and to prepare report on the acceptance or otherwise the use of materials
  • To participate the Quality Plan that is submitted by the Contractor to substantiate the fulfillment of Enhanced Quality Supervision and Assurance Plan for foundation works, for site supervision and inspection
  • To follow the Inspection, Test and Approval Plan (ITAP) for site supervision and inspection works
  • To carry out the site supervision and management functions under the Registered Structural Engineers/Registered Geotechnical Engineers stream as outlined in the “Code of Practice for Site Supervision 2009” and “Technical Memorandum for Supervision Plans 2009” issued by the Buildings Department
  • To participate in the weekly safety walk by the site staff of at least a professional grade
  • To carry out spot checking of high risk construction activities by the site staff of at least a professional grade
  • To carry out daily review with the Contractor of all high-risk activities by the site staff of at least a professional grade and to undertake any other duties in connection with site construction activities
  • To coordinate and assist the design office on the design, coordination and supervision issues
  • To carry out other duty for the successful delivery of the project as requested by the design office

 What You’ll Need

  • The Resident Geotechnical Engineer shall be a Registered Professional Engineer (Geotechnical) with 5 years’ relevant post qualification experience in the supervision and co-ordination of geotechnical elements of construction projects with 2 years’ experience as a Resident Engineer
  • To have experience on the coordination and supervision of Temporary Traffic Management Scheme (TTMS), Utilities Diversion, Site Investigation, Hoarding, Demolition, Site Formation, Excavation and Lateral Support, Foundation are preferable
  • To have Design and Build Experience of ArchSD project is preferable
  • To work in flexible working hours including Over-time and Night shift may be required
