The Library is seeking an experienced individual to fill a project-based position whose main responsibility is to assist the Manager (Digital Scholarship & Archives) in the management of the Special Collections of the Library.
Reporting to the Manager (Digital Scholarship & Archives), the appointee’s major duties include managing and enhancing the Special Collections; managing the Special Collections Gallery and overseeing its development; implementing and installing exhibitions; organizing outreach programs and other education activities; conducting digitization projects for maps, rare books and audio-visual materials; and assisting in office administration.
The position will involve working on the Western Maps of China project. The appointee will assist the Manager (Digital Scholarship & Archives) in collecting information on the maps; obtaining map images and clearing copyright; and translating the English text into Chinese. The appointee may also be required to support the University Archives.
Applicants should have a bachelor's degree plus 3-5 years of work experience, preferably in Library/Art History/Museum Studies/Cultural Heritage Studies or other related disciplines. The ideal candidate should be a good team player and able to work independently. S/He should also possess good interpersonal and communication skills; a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (i.e. both Cantonese and Putonghua); good IT skills (e.g. skills in using Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator); and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
