Temporary Fabric Engineer (3-4 months contract)

Develop denim fabrics that support Target's Brand Promise and drive differentiation in our owned brand assortment. Be the expert on supplier's facility capabilities and provide innovative solutions to technical issues in development and production.
Fabric Development and Technical Expertise
- Responsible for fabric development within defined matrix for a category.
- Drive raw materials suppliers to develop fabrics that achieve overall trend, aesthetic, quality, and costing requirements and deliver a competitive advantage for Target.
- Skilled engineer with technical knowledge of yarn spinning and processing, weaving and knitting processes, fabric dyeing, printing and finishing.
- Knowledge of compliance and social responsibility impacts.
- Understanding of physical testing reports and an ability to provide a summary of the report’s impact on fabric performance.
- Execute and proactively explore innovative ideas including implementing new materials, functionality, products or manufacturing technologies.
Production Management
- Identifies potential production issues during the development process and engages key stakeholders to influence mitigation plan.
- Troubleshoot technical problems on site during production or development
Matrix Management
- Ability to recommend facility capabilities and determine which fabrics can be produced from a set of machinery available in a facility.
- Carry out fabric development at mill level. Conduct mill trials for critical samples, special weaves & finishes, establish SOP and come up with recommendations for internal and external partners
- Understand development strategy for the matrix
- Proactively provides suggestions to Category Lead or Minneapolis based team about supplier optimal supplier alignment within the category matrix.
- Maintains strong relationships in order to begin influencing internal and external partners, taking partners with manager as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Engineering and/or applicable technical major (i.e., textile, chemistry, material, etc.)
- Minimum 6 years’ verified technical experience in raw material manufacturing and product manufacturing with Quality Assurance focus
- Ability to work independently, and under general direction
- Knowledge of US regulatory and safety requirements
- Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skill
- Collaborative focus and ability to work successfully across functional area
- Works autonomously to manage all day-to-day operations with little or no supervision from the manager
- Able to travel frequently
- Language: fluent in English and local language
- Candidate with more experience will be considered as Senior Fabric Engineer
