About the Team

Corporate Research Department (East Asia Office) commenced operation in Hong Kong in March 2013, as a result of divisional restructuring, to succeed basically all the tasks of the former “Global Research Line” (which started operation in April 2006 in Tokyo) and to further enhance the coverage to cope with our Bank’s increasing importance of Asian businesses.

Further to develop its research function, Corporate Research Department has established 5 offices in October 2015, including Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and New York after expanded to Singapore in April 2014.

Corporate Research Department (East Asia Office) has two major responsibilities:

  1. Executing an authority related to internal credit rating; and
  2. Conducting research and analysis for better credit decisions.

Role requirements

  • To conduct research and analysis of a specific industry, company or company group with a fair and impartial view in pertinent, persuasive, and timely manner;
  • To conduct tasks related to the execution of internal credit rating assignment, including the determination of a credit rating of covered customers, the preparation of credit rating-related reports, and the processing of credit rating applications;
  • To visit customers (offices/plant in HK, China and other places if appropriate) with business promotion divisions whenever necessary for obtaining more in-depth and accurate information on the customers for analysis purpose;
  • To support senior staff for smooth, appropriate and proactive operation of the department.

Essential Functions

  • To make better credit decisions (Senior Management, Credit group);
  • To manage credit risk in proper, adequate, and timely manner and control cost of credit;
  • To enhance credit risk management and optimize assets allocation;
  • To support business promotion by utilizing the KYC function;
  • To analyze and assess creditworthiness and business viability of a particular company (group) with a fair and impartial view;
  • To produce information to facilitate the bank to allocate its capital most efficiently and effectively.


  • To proactively manages regular work without Department Head's instruction and handles irregular cases by obtaining necessary information and analyzing previous cases;
  • To provide guidance/feedback to junior staff where necessary;
  • To respect for and commit to high standards of business conduct and integrity in conducting operations/reporting, etc.

Work experience, education and skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance / Econ / Accounting / Law; Master’s Degree, CFA or CPA or HKAB preferred;
  • With 3 to 5 years’ experience in handling research or credit analysis or rating, relevant experience in financial institution / rating company / consultant company is an advantage;
  • Experienced in economic research or basic credit analysis of large corporations;
  • Practical understanding of financial statements and basic financial;
  • Fluent English and Mandarin, conversant in Japanese language is required; knowledge of Korean language is also an added advantage;
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Access preferred;
  • Self-motivated and flexible;
  • Frequent business trips are required.
