Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Director of Programs, the Support Coordinator/Manager’s responsibilities include:

  • Ensure quality standards of AFS are met and high quality support and service are provided to students, families and other volunteers; pitch in by personally providing support when volunteer network fails; crisis management when required
  • Coordinate or provide support for student cases related to behavioral, emotional, medical, or other issues that may arise during the AFS program
  • Liaise with global AFS partners on student support cases
  • Work with local school representatives and provide support to them regarding exchange students’ welfare in their schools
  • Increase effectiveness of pre-departure seminars for students and parents
  • Work to enhance program content for AFS sending and hosting students on an AFS exchange year
  • Work with volunteers on orientations and Intercultural Learning (ICL) trainings for sending & host students, sending parents, host families and school contact teachers
  • Identify and implement training opportunities for volunteers to improve student support
  • Follow-up with scholarship recipients on reflection journals; coordinate evaluations of AFS student experiences and diagnose areas for improvement
  • Assist with recruitment and retention of host families and volunteer support contacts
  • Assist with seminars, talks, and events, which may be during weekends or weeknights
  • Collaborate closely with Volunteer Development and Program staff members
  • Maintain contact databases
  • Carry out tasks as assigned by the Senior Director of Programs and the Executive Director


Requirements for this position are:

  • At least 3 years of work experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in Chinese and English
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and project-management capabilities
  • Previous work experience related to social work, counselling, and/or youth development is preferred
  • Experience working with students, parents, and volunteers is an advantage
  • Knowledge of Hong Kong education system is an advantage
  • A recognized university degree
