What's it like to be a Legal Counsel?
Legal Counsel, often known as in-house lawyers, provide legal guidance to businesses. Their duties comprise of steering their organisation into legal compliance by assessing legal risks, negotiating contracts with external stakeholders, and crafting company policies. Legal Counsels work within various industries, such as technology, finance, healthcare, or non-profit organisations, and can specialise in areas such as corporate compliance, labour and employment law, data privacy, or intellectual property.
Tasks and duties
- Providing legal advice to the business on various issues such as commercial transactions, corporate governance, employment matters, and regulatory compliance.
- Drafting, interpreting, and negotiating complex contracts, agreements, policies, and other legal documents.
- Representing the business in legal proceedings, including court trials and dispute resolutions.
- Coordinating with external law firms and legal consultants as necessary to handle legal matters and litigation.
- Helping to develop company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance at all levels.
- Conducting legal research and keeping up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations that may affect the business.
- Providing training to company personnel on legal topics and compliance issues.
