What's it like to be an Information Technology Manager?
Information Technology Managers oversee the IT department within an organisation. Their responsibilities include implementing software and hardware upgrades, securing data and information, network administration and ensuring the smooth operation of all IT-related operations. Working closely with other department heads, they help determine the IT needs of an organisation and devise strategies to meet those needs. Information Technology Managers are sometimes accountable for troubleshooting and resolving issues arising from day-to-day operations.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing installation and maintenance of computer systems within a company.
- Developing and implementing IT policies and procedures to improve business operations.
- Managing and coordinating IT staff, including hiring, training and assessing their performance.
- Negotiating with vendors to secure the best prices for hardware and software products.
- Evaluating new technologies and making recommendations on technological solutions and upgrades.
- Ensuring data storage is safe and consistent by implementing effective security measures.
- Resolving technical issues and providing troubleshooting support when needed.
