Senior Vice President / Vice President, Strategic Projects
Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute (MRDI) is established to seize the huge potential market for third-generation semiconductors and align with the national strategy for technological development.
The vision is for the MRDI to play a leading role in strengthening collaboration with the industry, academia, and research sectors, expediting the "1 to N" transformation of scientific research outcomes, promoting technological innovation, and assisting the industry in enhancing efficiency as well as achieving upgrading and transformation.
The MRDI is looking for a dynamic and high-calibre professional to fill the position of Senior Vice President / Vice President, Strategic Projects.
Job Responsibilities
· Spearhead the application, establishment, and accreditation of national-level manufacturing innovation centers, engineering research centers, and other major innovation platforms.
· Lead and manage the full lifecycle of major strategic projects, with a focus on driving “0-to-1” hard-tech initiatives—from government engagement and policy coordination to proposal planning, development, and submission for national-level mega projects and key R&D programmes.
· Navigate complex government relations and coordinate multi-departmental policies to ensure alignment and successful delivery of major initiatives.
· Build and maintain high-level relationships with global industry partners, research institutions, and potential investors through strong international network and cross-cultural capability; conceptualise and deliver high-profile international forums and conferences related to third-generation semiconductors.
· Provide strategic input on global semiconductor industry trends, investment landscapes, and partnership opportunities to support organisational strategy and ecosystem development.
· Leverage deep industry knowledge, an extensive professional network, and multilingual skills to attract international partnerships and support the growth of the global third-generation semiconductor ecosystem.
· Oversee project funding processes, coordinate relevant policies, and help ensure robust financial structures to support project implementation and delivery.
Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Materials Science, etc.); advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
· Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in the third-generation semiconductor industry, with demonstrated success in leading the end-to-end landing and execution of large-scale, government-related projects and an ability to operate effectively in diverse cultural and business environments.
· Demonstrated experience in founding and establishing core semiconductor-related initiatives, with deep, hands-on involvement in the end-to-end process of supporting applications, implementation, and accreditation for major national innovation platforms and key science and technology projects.
· Excellent resource integration, stakeholder management, and government relations skills, with a strong understanding of the policy landscape in Mainland China.
· In-depth understanding of wide-bandgap semiconductor (GaN, SiC) technologies, global industry trends, and ecosystem building logic.
· Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese. Knowledge of third language is an advantage.
The job level will be determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience. Candidate will less experience will also be considered.
The initial employment contract spans 12 months and can be renewed with a longer tenure upon mutual agreement of the incumbent and MRDI. The incumbent will normally work five days a week. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A gratuity of 15% of the salary will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the contract.
