Legal Counsel
What you'll be doing:
Provide general legal assistance for the East Asia offices in following areas:
Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of legal documentation, including maritime, corporate, and commercial contracts
Advise internal stakeholders and business units on legal matters relating to day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives
Lead and coordinate legal and compliance risk analysis, including due diligence, working alongside internal stakeholders and external counsel
Manage compliance-related workstreams, including policy advice, policy development, in -house training’s planning and delivery, third-party due diligence, and screening processes
Handle internal compliance reviews and investigations
Perform legal research, monitor and identify potential legal risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures
Take ownership of moderately complex matters with limited supervision, escalating appropriately on novel or high-risk issues
Perform ad-hoc assignments or projects as required
What we're looking for:
LL.B or J.D. from a recognized institution, with qualification to practice law in HK
5 - 8 years' post-qualification experience in private practice and/or an in-house legal team, with expertise in maritime, corporate, compliance, or related practice areas
Demonstrated track record independently drafting, advising on, and negotiating a variety of contracts, and/or leading compliance matters
Strong ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and collaboratively across teams and regions
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skill with strong organizational and stakeholder management skills
Sound commercial judgment, a proactive mindset, and high personal ownership of work product
Experience in the shipping/maritime industry and/or compliance work is highly preferred
