What's it like to be an Account Manager?
Account Managers focus on building and maintaining strong, long-lasting relationships with clients. They serve as the main point of contact for matters specific to their customers, ensuring that their needs are met in a timely and satisfactory manner. They also typically oversee customer account management which may include negotiating contracts and closing deals, strategising to drive sustained revenue growth, and liaising with cross-functional internal teams. Account Managers usually work in industries such as advertising, marketing, sales and public relations. They can also be found in technology companies where customer service is a key component of business operations.
Tasks and duties
- Building and maintaining long-term relationships with clients by addressing their specific needs.
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients.
- Negotiating contracts with clients.
- Setting and tracking sales targets for assigned accounts.
- Coordinating with marketing, sales and product development teams to implement business development initiatives.
- Maintaining an understanding of the industry, market trends and competition.
How to become an Account Manager
Account Managers focus on building and maintaining strong, long-lasting relationships with clients. Being able to communicate and connect with people effectively is a must.
- 1.Diploma in Business Studies, Marketing or related discipline.
- 2.Relevant work experience (e.g., account management, project management, and the like) in a related industry is an advantage.
- 3.Has a deep commercial understanding of business issues/opportunities.
- 4.Strong customer service, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
