What's it like to be a Finance Manager?
Finance Managers manage an organisation's financial planning and analysis. Their duties include producing financial reports, managing a finance team and developing strategies for the long-term financial goals of their organisation. They analyse costs, pricing, variable contributions, sales results and the company’s actual performance compared to the business plans. The industries in which a Finance Manager could work are diverse, spanning from technology and pharmaceuticals to energy and retail.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing the financial operations of the company to ensure business growth and profitability.
- Preparing and presenting financial reports including monthly and annual accounts.
- Planning, organising and executing financial tasks and projects.
- Developing strategies and plans for the long-term financial goals of their organisation.
- Analysing market trends and competitors to anticipate potential financial issues or opportunities.
- Staying updated with changes in financial regulations and legislation.
- Directing the company's budgeting and investment activities.
How to become a Finance Manager
Most organisations require their Finance Managers to have accounting experience or a degree in a related field.
- 1.Degree holder in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- 2.Being a Hong Kong certified public accountant, with membership to the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) or to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or having similar certifications is an advantage.
- 3.Years of relevant experience in accounting and finance is preferred.
- 4.Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
- 5.Competent at leading a team, has excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and solid analytical/problem-solving skills.
